Life long learning is one of the most important
tenets of Unitarian Universalism. Our belief in the continuing revelation
of Truth in all its forms holds with it the responsibility to pursue
that truth with intention and purpose, and Adult Religious Education
workshops are an important way in which we as a congregational community
engage in this pursuit of Truth. Our workshops seek to support our
personal spiritual journeys by providing opportunities to expand
our knowledge, to explore ideas and feelings and to grow emotionally
and spiritually. By this support of the personal and individual,
we re-energize and re-focus our spiritual and civic commitments,
contributing thus to a strong foundation for our collective work
towards a better society.
Sunday
Morning Forum
Timely
Unitarian Universalist Topics (TUUT)
TUUT was formed to be a lively discussion group examining a
variety of current topics of interest. President Bush's
co-optation of Private Charity under the rubric of Faith Based
Initiative was one of the first things examined.
In concert with the Sunday Morning Forum, TUUT discussed
ramifications of Sam Harris' critique of The Acceptance of
Evil. We also tackled Reverend Sinkford's call for a Language
of Reverence. That one was a 'two parter' and brought out a lot
of people and lively discussion.
This year TUUT will explore a wide range of topics -- which will
largely be generated by those who are meeting and interested.
These topics will, however, include the UUA Study Action Issue
of Peace Making.
Our first session will center on something simple and close to
home: What is your elevator speech -- how do you answer -- for
others and for yourself – what you mean if you call yourself
Unitarian Universalist.
Thinking
Scripture
Thinking Scripture is an ongoing course that provides an opportunity to
explore the history of the Bible, traditional and non-traditional
interpretation of the Bible, and to share our own perspectives on
and struggles with this key text. We are reading slowly an in depth,
combining study materials in addition to the core text itself. Currently
our primary focus is on the Hebrew Scriptures. Over time, we will
carefully explore the Hebrew Scripture, the Christian Bible, and
other sacred texts. You are welcome to join at anytime. Please
contact Rev. Hilary Krivchenia with questions. 743-8812. The group
meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month in the evenings.
Church
Library
The church has a large number of books on various religious,
theological and spiritual topics.
You are welcome to borrow books from the church library.
